As economy was a major consideration for this custom-made kitchen project, we chose good-quality but cost-effective Grech & Grech kitchen cabinets in simple white matt lacquer, creating a sleek and sophisticated but muted backdrop. Our big idea was to create a neutral space but invest more in a single focal point that would provide a truly dramatic centrepiece.

The centrepiece we created was simply stunning: a handmade central kitchen island that was a piece of sculpture in its own right. We applied Alpi walnut burr woodgrain veneer to the faces in a continuous book-matched grain, finished with a high gloss lacquer burnished by hand, with curved stainless steel legs hand-polished to a lustrous finish. The Silestone worktop of just 12mm thickness maintained the theme of lightness. This unique sculptural piece elevated the kitchen to high art, giving it the sensational focal point it needed.

To appeal to a high net worth target market we suggested that high-end kitchen appliances would be required. We chose an integrated Miele wine cooler, a plumbed-in Miele coffee machine with warming drawer, integrated tall fridge/freezer, combo steam oven, combo microwave, 2 large single ovens, an induction hob and a personally specified and designed Westin ceiling extractor to allow for an air duct. On top of this, we also crafted cabinetry for the utility room and washroom.
