Everyone asks the question. But the answer isn’t straightforward. Creating a completely luxury bespoke kitchen is an intricate process, where hard-to-find materials, specialist craftsmen and complex planning all come into play. But at Grech & Grech, we specialise in dealing with challenging conditions to produce bespoke kitchens of distinction.
How long does it take to create a bespoke kitchen?

Establish what you want from your new hand-crafted bespoke kitchen
We work with clients at the early stages of deciding what they are looking for in a bespoke kitchen. Some have very strong ideas, others look to us to understand the way they live and how they use the space, before creating a bespoke kitchen design perfectly suited for their lifestyle.
After setting an initial budget, we ask a lot of questions. How do you use the space? Is it a family hub, where you gather and talk about the day? Perhaps you use the space to entertain guests in a lavish setting. Maybe you work from home and want a tech-enabled space, or love experimenting with different foods in a fully equipped chef’s kitchen. It’s the starting point for creating a brilliant design.

Many clients plunge themselves in magazines, Pinterest and Instagram to inspire their choice of style, deciding on how they want their new bespoke kitchen to look. “Sometimes a block of stone will take six months to find, and then you need a specialist to cut or water jet cut, depending on the piece,” said Donna Grech, our Managing Director. “Or a continuous veneer which is curved and high gloss: with three labour-intensive disciplines, it will have a longer lead time.”
We work closely with other clients who need help deciding, and can put together mood boards of styles, colours, finishes and materials that express your personality. We take into account the appearance and layout of your home, look for any architectural features that could guide us, and consider how you use the space. If you use your kitchen mainly to entertain, we can cleverly conceal appliances for a sleek, sophisticated look. We can bury technology in marble countertops and develop zoning for different family members. Maybe you prefer Art Deco or farmhouse, industrial or classic. Whatever your taste and lifestyle, we can make a luxury bespoke kitchen that complements the way you live and exactly how you want to use the space.

What features are essential in your bespoke kitchen?
Perhaps it is a unique curved kitchen island; a continuous grain-matched veneer; Art Deco detailing; or a hidden integrated nespresso machine and teppanyaki grill plates. Whatever your unique requirements, we can incorporate them into our design.
Will Grech, our Creative Director, points out, “The more we know right at the beginning, the smoother the process. Water, electrics, ducts for an extractor… everything needs to be considered at the build stage, so its imperative to get an expert designer and project manager on board early to make sure there are no constraints.
And of course, when you commission us to create a bespoke kitchen, the whole of our artisan team is yours. We can also craft complementary features, such as dining tables, technology centres, cinema rooms, bar areas and window seats. And our little book of contacts allows us to source exquisite upholstery, antique stained glass, Persian rugs and high-tech lighting… anything you can think of to style your space in your own voice.
So the short answer to how long it takes to create a bespoke kitchen is: it depends. Each of our bespoke kitchens are completely unique and hand-crafted to a client’s taste, personality and lifestyle. It takes as long as it takes.
