What that usually means is that have a standard range of finishes and sizes which they can adapt to your space, so you can choose a unit and they can make it bigger or smaller. But they can’t offer the high-gloss veneer finish you want, customise a curved kitchen island or design a matching handmade dining table. At Grech & Grech, we design and create truly handmade kitchens, crafting everything entirely from scratch to your exact specifications.

We always say that using our service is rather like visiting a Savile Row tailor, who cuts and fits everything precisely to your body shape. A mass-produced, made-to-measure kitchen is adjusted to fit in the available space, with a limited number of designs, colours and materials on offer. A luxury handmade kitchen is unique to you, and gives you the flexibility to choose the arrangements of units, along with materials, colours and sizes. As Will, our Creative Director, says, “In an off-the-shelf kitchen design, you may have cabinets available in 20 colours; a bespoke kitchen means you mix your own pigment.”

Aside from the massive difference in quality and longevity between a truly handmade kitchen and a made-to-measure one is the final product. “We can do anything for our clients,” says our Managing Director, Donna Grech. “We have made cabinets out of marble, cutting it into slabs like jigsaw puzzle components, so it looks like a pebble that has been dropped and cut into two. A Grech & Grech bespoke handmade kitchen is designed to make the best use of your space. Hidden pantries and cupboards can conceal appliances; power sources can be embedded in marble counters; awkward-shaped rooms can be made to appear more spacious and efficient. There is no constraint of standard cabinets, as everything is made for you. We’ve even made curved cabinets for an elliptical room, cleverly hiding appliances behind the curved doors.

We make all components in our workshop in Chichester, West Sussex. Carcasses can be constructed from various substrates including Birch ply for solidity and a durability. Our drawers are precisely engineered for strength, and sit on beautifully smooth full-extension soft-close runners. Our doors can be made of any wood, with butt style or concealed soft-close hinges made by market-leading suppliers. We are also able to design and engineer fully customized hinges for a truly unique approach.
